“In order to get ready for the championships in November, we have to face the best of the best early in the year,” said Head Coach Isaias Ramirez.  “This type of scheduling allows our team to get mentally strong and it gives them an insight of what it takes to be among the elite”.
Vicente Rojas (10:30) started the day with a medal.  He is still learning about running and these early races will make him stronger, added Ramirez.
“I know he was not satisfied with a fifth place finish but that hunger for first will make him even that much better,” Ramirez said.
Narrowly missing a medal was Marcos Ramirez 11:03.  New runner Joseph Price 10:31 was in contention for the top spot in the last 800m of the sophomore race but fell short against the best sophomore in the Valley.
“Joseph really surprised me today.  He ran strong and will only get better by running more races,” commented Coach Ramirez.
Eliseo Mendes ran well with a time of 10:56 improving close to 30 seconds from last years’ time.
Other medalists were Everardo Palomares 10:24, Everardo Ramirez 10:24, Christian Gonzalez 10:14 and Cesar Angulo 10:13.  Cesar Angulo was named the Runner of the Week.
“Cesar showed a tremendous kick at the end of the race.  It’s that type of effort that we look for in our runners.  He out-kicked one of his teammates along with another runner despite being behind them about six yards at the 100m mark,” added Coach Ramirez.
Other runners were Noemi Lopez 13:28, Kayla Gutierrez 13:51, Ashley Salas 13:55, Yuridia Hernandez 14:17, Arnoldo Villanueva 10:36, Aldo Garcia 10:45, Alan Zaragoza 11:05, Christopher Price 11:15, Edgar Rodriguez 11:38, Leonardo Villasenor 11:44, Fernando Gonzalez 12:15, Christian Rodriguez 12:36, Zackery Cardenas 12:50, Jagraaj Dulai 14:29 and Kevin Alvarez 15:48.
