Montoy earns scholarship to UCSB

While at Taft, Montoy started at goalie for the team and was a two time Central valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. He led his team to the semi-finals of the California Community College State play-offs. On the year he allowed just 16 goals over 24 games while recording 14 shutouts. He helped the Cougars place fourth in the state and seventh in the nation.
Following his stellar career at Taft, Montoy earned a scholarship at the University of California Santa Barbara. On signing day this year, Montoy signed with the UCSB’s Gauchos and will join their roster as a junior. He will begin UCSB in the fall after he graduates from Taft College in May with his AA degree in Administration of Criminal Justice.
UCSB is a four-time reigning Big West North Champion. According to an article on the UCSB website. The Gauchos have maintained one of the best programs on the West Coast since Tim Vom Steeg took over in 1999. In that time, UCSB has earned a 2006 National Championship, 10 Big West Championships, two College Cup berths, and 14 postseason appearances.
Ricardo Montoy Jr. is the son of Ricardo Montoy Sr. and Celia Montoy of Corcoran.
