Current city watering schedule

Tuesday, 09 May 2017 21:46 Written by  Jeanette Todd

The city council has not addressed the issue thus far this year, so until they make any changes, the 2016 watering schedule remains in place.
City Manager Kindon Meik recommended the change last year, noting that mandated state water conservation regulations remained in place. In 2016,  the State Water Resources Control Board approved a little less onerous conservation rate for Corcoran following the El Nino winter. With snow on the ground in the Central Sierras, the city was required  to achieve a 32 percent savings rate, as opposed to 2015’s  36 percent.
Corcoran actually was able to achieve an overall 30.8 percent savings in water use during the past year, far greater than any other Kings County city.
The local watering schedule is as follows:
--Residential and commercial properties, with addresses ending in even numbers, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday;
--Residential and commercial properties with addresses ending in odd numbers, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday;
--Schools, by agreement with the city;
--Churches, Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and
--Multi-family residential complexes, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Watering must take place before 9 a.m. and after 7 p.m. Residents found watering on an incorrect schedule, watering at the wrong time or wasting water can be ticketed by the city.
Other rules apply, including:
--No washing of sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, courts, patios and other paved areas;
--Run-off of water on areas not requiring irrigation will be deemed water waste;
--Leaks, breaks and/or malfunctions of plumbing and outdoor irrigation systems must be repaired within 48 hours;
--Autos, trucks, trailers, boats, airplanes and other types of vehicles must be washed when using a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shut-off nozzle; and
--Ornamental fountains may only be operated if using a recycling system.
