The local school district has named its employees and volunteer of the year for the 2014-2015 school year. The winners were selected from a list of recently submitted nominees. Corcoran’s selections will be presented to the Kings County Office of Education for consideration as employees of the year for the county, announced at a special banquet in April. City Lawsuit

It appears that a quietly launched lawsuit by the City of Corcoran against Kings County may be nearing an end. At issue is close to $200,000 illegally taken from the city almost nine years ago.

 

Back in 2006, counties across the state reformulated their Property Tax Administration Fee (PTAF), a fee assessed by each county for distributing property taxes to the cities in its jurisdiction. They did not mention the reformulation—which resulted in an increase in those fees—to the cities.

Candidate sought

Corcoran Unified School District is looking for a new school board member. Specifically, the board is missing a member representing Area 1, left vacant with the retirement of Steve White.

 

No one filed to replace White in the recent November, 2014, election.

LCAP survey

Corcoran Unified School District is inviting any interested community residents to get online to complete a survey providing input regarding the district’s Local Control Accountability Program (LCAP) funds for next year.

 

The program had added hundreds of thousands of dollars to the district’s budget; however, the funds must be spent for items that have direct student impact.

Public Forum

The public is welcome to participate in a public forum with the Kings County Reentry Taskforce in an effort to strengthen services provided to county youth by both the probation and Child Protective Services (CPS) programs.

 

The local public hearing will be held at the Corcoran RAC on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. The hearing will be held until 12 noon.
