Relay for Life

After competing with 479 events across the state, the Corcoran Relay for Life has been named the “Pack the Track” challenge winner for the entire state.

 

The challenge enlisted all the relays to see who could increase their percentage of participants to goal between Jan 26-Feb. 3. After making the push to help win the challenges, the Corcoran relay is almost 20 percent of the way to its total goal.

HSR appraises local properties

While the battle continues, some local residents have been receiving appraisals on their properties from the California High Speed Rail Authority. And the Citizens for California High Speed Rail Accountability (CCHSRA) are answering with additional eminent domain workshops, visits to authority board meetings and lawsuits.

Ladies roll past Granite Hills

The Corcoran High varsity girls’ team defeated Granite Hills 63-46 Friday in East Sequoia League play. Corcoran’s leading scorer was Jacquelyn Noble who had 18 points followed by Imari Russell with 14 and Hydee Tapia with 12.

 

Despite the win, Coach Doug White says his team is still struggling at times this season and he’s hoping some line-up changes fix their problem areas.

Romero’s win streak ends

The Corcoran High Panther wrestling team lost it first dual match of the season last Wednesday. The Panthers were defeated by defending champions Granite Hills out of Porterville 47-27 and are now 2-1 in the East Sequoia League.

 

The Panthers lack of experienced wrestlers showed against a seasoned Granite Hills.

Gambin to perform

Gambin to perform

A third artist—and second pianist—has been added to the list of performers to be showcased at a concert to be held Feb. 18 at the Gerald Schwenk Auditorium at Corcoran High School.

 

The Rotary Club of Corcoran is hosting the special event, which will feature Italian pianist Francesco Attesti and organist Matteo Galli, also from Italy. Joining them on stage to perform two numbers will be Rycharde Gambin, who has taught piano lessons in Corcoran and surrounding Central Valley cities for the past 20 years.

Soccer: CHS beats Grizzlies

4-3 win in extra time over Granite Hills helped the Corcoran High varsity girls’ soccer team move into second place in the East Sequoia League.

 

The Lady Panthers started off slow against Granite Hills, according to Coach Victor Ochoa. Down 2-0 in the beginning of the game but played hard and pulled out the win, he added.

Stabbing arrests

Four young Corcoran gang members who have been accused of attacking and stabbing a victim Sunday in the early morning hours have been arrested on attempted murder charges.
