City approves water use cuts

It appears local residents are getting sloppy about their water use. With that in mind, the city council tightened the screws Monday night, talking water conservation and implementing stricter watering requirements.

Christmas royalty contest

The Corcoran Christmas Tree Committee’s annual Christmas King, Queen, Prince and Princess contest is underway. Applications are currently being accepted for the contest which is open to youth in grades kindergarten through 12th.

CAHSEE no longer state diploma requirement

Former high school students who did not pass the required California High School Exit Exam and were denied their diplomas can now receive them after Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 172. Senate Bill 172 (Liu-D, La Canada-Flintridge), suspends passage of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE as a requirement for high school graduation through the 2017-2018 school year.

Rainfall totals

While it may not have been a drought-buster, last week’s rain certainly was cause for celebration in Corcoran and other areas of the state. The Central Valley picked up plenty of precipitation with three different storms during the week.

Tennis claims East Sequoia League title

Clinging to a one-game lead after thirteen league matches, the Corcoran High Panther tennis team was forced to make their longest trip of the season to Orange Cove. The pesky Titans had given the Panthers all they could handle in Corcoran a few weeks earlier, losing 6-3 with three matches swinging in the balance that eventually went Corcoran’s way.

Combination rosary and mass services were held Wednesday, Oct. 21 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for Richard E. Regalado, 29, of Corcoran who died Oct. 11.
