The Journal got the watering schedule wrong in last week’s paper. A two-day watering pattern was put in place early in the year in 2016; however, when the state’s department of water resources reduced the amount of water the City of Corcoran was required to serve, the city council adjusted the watering schedule in the spring of 2016.

Amtrak ticket price increase possible
The city is looking at increasing prices for subsidized Amtrak train tickets between Corcoran and Hanford, and may—or may not—increase the price of riding on Corcoran Area Transit (CAT) buses. Any changes will take place after the beginning of the new fiscal year in July.
Council endorses Measure A
The Corcoran city council has officially endorsed Measure A, a one-cent sales tax initiative that will go before the voters June 6.

Levee updates
Work on the Cross Creek Levee is about 75 percent complete and it appears a relatively cool beginning of spring may well have helped the city of Corcoran dodge a bullet. Unless the weather heats up rapidly, it now appears the town could be safe from catastrophic flooding.
Burden receives top award

Mark Burden, Head Groundsman for Corcoran Unified School District was named the School Employee of the Year at the 2017 Excellence in Education Awards, which were held Thursday, April 6 at the West Hills College Eagle Arena.

Mass was held Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for Jose Alberto Montejano Rios, 49, who died April 15 in Corcoran.

Services were held Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Ministries Church for Simon L. Guerrero, 57, who died April 6 in San Diego following a brief battle with cancer.
