The Corcoran 50-50 Club held their annual fundraiser Friday night at the home of Patty and Jerry Robertson. There were plenty of winners at Friday’s drawing but perhaps the most important includes the recipient of this year’s fundraiser—the 2019 100th Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration Committee an ad-hoc committee of the Corcoran Chamber of Commerce.

CHS AFJROTC earns Distinguished Unit Award
Corcoran High School’s Air Force JROTC has been selected as one of the 376 units to receive the 2018-2019 Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award. The Distinguished Unit Award recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, the contributions of the instructors as mentors of the cadets, and the support of the school and community. The award is limited to the very best of the best of the nation’s 900 Air Force JROTC units.

U.S. Air Force Airman Jose Huerta graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
CHS ends year with multiple ESL titles
The Corcoran High School Panthers ended the final season of sport this past week and capped the year with three spring season Varsity East Sequoia League Titles, finishing the school year with six varsity league championships in the 17 sports that CHS participates in annually.
Contreras receives prestigious scholarship
Corcoran High School senior Juan Contreras is the first CHS student in school history to be selected as a President Scholar for College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
CHS Seniors earn scholarships
Nearly $800,000 in awards were earned last Wednesday by the Corcoran High School senior class. Taking the top honors of The Col. James G. Boswell Scholarship were Katherine Lam and Kaylee Sepulveda who each were awarded $25,000 for four years.

Flashback: Watermelon Heaven
Dorothy June Rogers lived in Corcoran for many years during the 1930’s, after her family migrated here from Wyoming. She was born here, the youngest of several children—who were all 16-21 years of age when she arrived!
