Corcoran didn’t crack the top 10 in state Academic Decathlon competition, but the team did bring home several medals. Corcoran High School’s team went to the state after winning the Kings County title in February. The state competition was held in Sacramento over the weekend.

Pete Armbruster finished as the top scorer from Corcoran. In interview, he earned a gold medal and in speech, Armbruster took home a silver medal.

Corcoran students did well in speech, with Marina LeFridge also earning silver and Miriam Soto taking gold. In interview, Donna Rojo won bronze.

“All in all, the students did a great job representing our school and our community,” said Chuck Gent, principal at Corcoran High School. “To me, this group epitomizes all we are about at CHS: dedication, hard work and the belief that anyone can achieve great things.” Gent congratulated the team and its advisor, teacher Mike Pankratz, noting that without Pankratz’ leadership, the team would not have accomplished what it did.
