Friday evening Corcoran High School held their annual Athlete of the Year banquet. The event honors top overall athletes, class athletes and scholar athletes of the year for Corcoran High School. Winners in each category are chosen by CHS coaches.
This year’s top overall Female Athlete of the year for Corcoran High is Alice Meik. Alice is the daughter of Angie and Dr. Kindon Meik of Corcoran.
Last fall, Alice earned her four-year medal award as a member of the CHS volleyball team. She also earned consecutive scholar athlete of the year awards and was named MVP for the frosh-soph team for her accomplishments on the court during the past four years.
In the spring, Meik led the CHS girls swim team to its second East Sequoia League championship in school history. Meik earned an incredible four league championship first place swim medals. Alice won the 200 Medley, the 200 Freestyle, the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle. She also earned the 2019 Most Valuable Player Award for the undefeated league champions and qualified for three different events at the valley meet.
Brock Rogers was named the overall Male Athlete of the Year for CHS. He is the son of Sandra and Erik Rogers of Corcoran.
Brock was a member of the CHS league champion track team. He earned a league championship as a member of the 4 by 100 meter relay team and showed his versatility by also placing in the triple jump, and 300 meter hurdles. Brock also qualified for all three events at the West Area Meet.
However, where Rogers rewrote the record book was for his accomplishments in wrestling. Brock is a Division 2 Valley Champion at 145 pounds. He earned this year’s East Sequoia League’s Most Outstanding Wrestler Award along with a Co-Most Valuable Player Award; he also won the MVP award every other year of his four years at CHS. Brock finished in the top 12 in the entire state of California in the open wrestler division. His season included first place finishes at the Redwood Invitational, and The Mission Oak True Wrestler Tournaments.
Brock leaves Corcoran High as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the school’s history.
