Allensworth’s Juneteenth celebration

Colonel Allensworth SHP and Friends of Allensworth will hold a fashion show: Allensworth 1915: Fashions of the Past. The fashion show will be held June 13 from 1-2 p.m. and the first place winner will receive $75.

The event will be held during the park’s annual Juneteenth celebration. Fashion show rules are to dress in period correct clothing for Allensworth’s from working class to Sunday best. Judges will score on authenticity, complexity of outfit and fit/accessories. An award of $75 will be given to Best Dressed (Man and Woman and special recognition will be given to Best Dressed Docents.


Allensworth is the only town in California to be founded, financed and governed by African Americans. Colonel Allen Allensworth and a group of others, dedicated to improving the economic and social status of blacks, founded the small community in 1908. For more information call 661-849-3433.
