It was a edge of your seat game that had to be finished in overtime and the Corcoran Panthers tied 3-3 with the Lindsay Cardinals Friday in Lindsay.

In the first half of the regular game the Cardinals scored a goal on a Panther mistake CHS fought back and tied the game with a goal by Edgar Moran.

In second half action the Cardinals scored another goal on a great shot from the outside box. The Panthers, however, did not give up said Coach Hector Jaramillo.

Ten minutes later Carlos Becerra, who had just entered the game scored a goal to tie the game and the teams had to go to two 10-minute overtime periods.

The first 10 minutes of overtime both teams had several opportunities but the Corcoran defense and goalie Fernando Loaiza did everything to stop Lindsay. However, one shot from the outside box crossed the line and the Cardinals went ahead of the Panthers.

In a minute left of overtime Corcoran had one last opportunity on a free kick that was 40-yards away from the goal line. The Panther defender Raul Armenta was in charge of taking the free kick.

“The stadium was silent. Like if they knew that something was going to happen and it did. Raul took one of the best shots that a soccer player can take and he put it on the top left side of the goalie who flew trying to stop the ball but it was impossible to stop that shot,” Jaramillo said. “Our side line including myself went nuts after the goal.”

Corcoran is now tied with Lindsay for first place in the East Sequoia League with a 4-1-1 record.

The JV boys’ team lost 3-0 to Lindsay.

Against Strathmore last Tuesday, CHS came out on top 4-3 after a tough battle. Scoring for the Panthers were Fabian Roman, Erick Garcia, Edgar Moran and Angel Manriquez. JV boys lost 3-0.

Corcoran is on the road this week traveling to Hanford Tuesday and Granite Hills in Porterville today (Thursday). Details from Tuesday’s game were not available at press time. Next Tuesday, Feb. 10 Corcoran will host their final regular home game of the season against Woodlake. Game time is 4 p.m. at Corcoran Community Stadium.
