Corcoran Unified School District is looking for a new school board member. Specifically, the board is missing a member representing Area 1, left vacant with the retirement of Steve White.
No one filed to replace White in the recent November, 2014, election.
Letters of interest from voters who live in Area 1 must be turned in by Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. to the school district main office. Should there be several qualified applicants, interviews for the position will begin at 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26. The following day, a regular board meeting will be held beginning at 6 p.m. and the new member will be officially appointed.
A large map indicating the boundaries of Area 1, which encompasses mainly the west and southern portions of the school district, is available for review at the district office, 1520 Patterson Ave, The board of trustees meets each Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. and board members also serve on special committees and sub-committees. Most of those additional meetings take place in the afternoon.
This is the second time the district has had difficulty finding board members to fill all five area slots since the district switched to voting by districts. White had to be appointed to replace Fred Escalante, who himself had been appointed to the Area 1 chair when no candidates came forward to run.
