Corcoran High School had several athletes who participated in fall sports recently recognized for their efforts. Several football players were named all-league by the East Sequoia League as well as two CHS volleyball players. Also, several cross country runners were honored by The Hanford Sentinel for their performances.

The Div. V Valley champion Corcoran High football team had several of its players recognized by the East Sequoia League.

Nico Portillo, CHS senior quarterback, was chosen as the league’s Most Valuable Player for leading his team to the league and valley championships. He was named honorable mention in the quarterback category.

Legary Austin was named to the first team for wide receivers while Dillon Fugate took home second team honors and Omar Del Angel and Markeese Jones were honorable mentions.

Offensive linemen who were recognized included first team pick Adrian Cisneros and Marvin Machado was honorable mention.

Linebackers include Aidan Viveros as a first team pick and Del Angel was named to the second team. Roy Garcia and Machado were chosen as honorable mentions.

Defensive lineman Desmond Curtis was a first team all-league pick while Jones took second team honors.

Fugate was an all-league first team pick at defensive back while Alex Sarmienta was named to the second team and Ricky Ybarra was an honorable mention choice.

And Del Angel, Corcoran High’s kicker/punter was a first team all-leaguer.

In volleyball, Corcoran’s Julissa Lopez was the only player to be named to the East Sequoia League’s first team. Senior Sadie Jones received second team all-league honors.

In cross country action, The Hanford Sentinel chose Jonathan Matson and Cynthia Contreras as their 2014 Sentinel All-County boys and girls runners of the year.

Matson was chosen for a second consecutive year as the boys’ runner of the year. Matson won a Central Section title after Corcoran was moved up to Div. III. A junior, Matson advanced to the state meet as an individual after winning a section title.

Contreras, a senior, was the top Corcoran runner for the varsity girls’ team at the valley meet. She helped the girls’ team qualify for the state meet for the first time. She was also the top CHS runner at the state meet.

Other CHS runners to make the all-county cross country team for the boys were seniors Gary Austin and Pedro Perez. All county girls cross country team members included juniors Dulce Beas and Roxana Lule and senior Vanessa Rodriguez.

Also, CHS coach Isaias Ramirez was chosen as the all-county girls cross country coach.
