The Corcoran High School girls’ tennis team got the season off on the right track with a convincing 9-0 victory over the visiting Fowler Redcats last Tuesday.

In the closest match of the evening, number one singles, Sabrina Oregel topped Lizeth Jimenez, 8-4. Number two singles, Debbie Martinez steadied the ship and defeated, Lauren Tsujloka, 8-2. Sophomore, Ashley Pappilli, was too much for Miranda Garcia in number three singles, winning by an 8-0 margin. Jenny Gonzalez stepped in at number four singles and ran over Eve Tellez, 8-1. Simran Dulai bested Stephanie Castillo in number five singles, 8-2. Finally in number six singles, Stephanie Beas shut the door on Michelle Garza, winning 8-1.

Doubles action followed and once again the Panthers prevailed in all three matches. Number one doubles tandem of Martinez and Pappilli were near perfect, beating Jimenez and Tsujloka, 8-1. In number two doubles, Nayeli Beas made her varsity debut, subbing in for an injured Oregel and along with Gonzalez, blanked Garcia and Pineda, 8-0. In number three doubles, Mabel Zamora and Monica De loera made their varsity debut a nice one as they were too much for Yesenia Casadoa and Julie Hess, winning by the score of 8-1.

The Panthers have a busy slate this week as they travel to Coalinga and Washington Union on Monday and Tuesday. Corcoran opens league play on the road on Thursday as they visit the Orosi Cardinals for matches that begin at 4 p.m.
