Local residents seeking to honor deceased members of the Corcoran community who have made great contributions to the City of Corcoran can nominate that special someone for The Corcoran Memorial Wall. 2023 nominations are currently being accepted through Nov. 15.
The Corcoran Memorial Wall is located to the north side of the Corcoran City Pool at the Recreation Association of Corcoran (RAC). The wall features plaques in honor of the deceased members of the community who have contributed greatly to the progress of Corcoran.
The Corcoran Memorial Wall committee is currently accepting applications for nominees and individuals who will be chosen to receive a plaque in their honor on the wall.
Applicants will be chosen based on a points system—criteria requirements will determine the amount of points each applicant receives. Those nominated can be those born in Corcoran and who had continued to reside in town for a majority of their lives or local citizens not born in Corcoran but who had resided in town for most of their lives. Nominees may also just have worked in Corcoran but contributed greatly to the city. Clubs, organizations and/or boards that the nominees sat on or were a part of will also be recognized. Nominees’ activities within the city of Corcoran are also counted as well as the number of years they volunteered for each activity and that includes any leadership roles or positions they may have served in. Military service will also be included in the decision.
All nominations submitted will be considered by the Memorial Wall Committee, which is an ad-hoc committee of The Corcoran Community Foundation. Duplicate or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Applications are available at The Corcoran Journal office, 1040 Whitley Avenue. Completed applications must be returned before the Nov. 15 deadline.
Those selected for the honor will be announced in the spring of 2023.
