The Corcoran High varsity boys’ football team traveled to Lindsay on Halloween looking for a victory and they got one—the next day. The teams started the game Friday night but once rain and lightning began the game was postponed until Saturday afternoon.

According to Coach Rich lane, Lindsay was leading 14-13 and they were driving and had a fourth down and ½ yard a to go on Corcoran’s 31 yard line before the weather postponed the game.

On Saturday afternoon when the game resumed, Corcoran forced a fumble on that fourth down play and took over on offense. After being stopped on offense and the CHS defense forcing a three and out, Lane noted, CHs got the ball back on their 10-yard line.

“Faced with 90 yards and only four minutes left to go in the game it was do or die time,” he commented. “led by the running and blocking of Trent Olmos, the clear headed passing and leadership of Nico Portillo and some key catches on fourth downs by Legary Austin and Omar Del Angel we moved the ball on the field and made the go ahead score.”

On the next Lindsay possession, Corcoran’s Marvin Machado intercepted a pass and walked in for another score, Lane said. In fact, Machado picked off another Lindsay pass three plays later and ran it in for another touchdown. Unfortunately, Lane said that touchdown was negated due to a penalty.

On offense, Portillo passed for 211 yards completing 21 of 25 passes and Dillon Fugate completed one pass for 37 yards.

In the air, Del Angel caught six passes for 31 yard while Austin had eight receptions for 107 yards. Fugate caught two passes for 21 yards, Alex Sarmienta had one reception for 27 yards, Olmos caught three passes for 18 yards and Ricky Ybarra had one 37 yard reception.

On the ground, Olmos had 14 carries for 36 yards, Portillo had seven carries for 26 yards, Mitchell Dawes carried the ball five times for 28 yards and Desmond Curtis had one carry for 14 yards.

Scoring for Corcoran were Austin, Dawes, Olmos and Machado.

Defensively, Aidan Viveros led the team with 13 tackles, Curtis had 10 and Roy Garcia added six tackles for Corcoran. Del Angel, Markeese Jones and Fugate each had five tackles.

Overall player of the game was Austin, offensive player of the game was Olmos and defensive player of the game was Viveros.

Corcoran will head to Hanford tomorrow (Friday) to face Sierra Pacific High School. The East Sequoia league championship is on the line as well as the Battle of Hwy 43 trophy. Game time is 7 p.m.

The CHS JV football team posted an 18-24 loss to Lindsay. They will also play tomorrow (Friday) in Hanford. Game time for JV is 5 p.m.
