The Corcoran Chamber of Commerce is currently making plans for its 55th annual Cotton Festival, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 3. This year’s theme is a Cotton Pickin’ Good Time.

A 5K run will be held Saturday morning. Early bird registration can be done on www.active.com through Sept, 15. Early bird registration fees are $10 for children ages 0-12 years old and $15 for youth ages 13-18. Adults ages 19 and up is $20. Registration will include a t-shirt. Check in is at 7 a.m. and race begins at 8 a.m.

 

 

The Corcoran Rotary Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast in the Veteran’s Memorial Building, located on the corner of Van Dorsten and Hanna Avenues. Tickets are $6 for adults, which can be purchased in advance or $3 for children which are sold at the door the day of the event. The breakfast is all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, coffee and juice. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-9:30 a.m.

 

The Cotton Festival will continue with the Cotton Parade which will be held down Whitley Avenue. Categories include floats, equestrian, bands, antique car, comic and novelty, marching and walking groups, performing groups, decorated motor vehicle, antique farm equipment and more.

 

To enter the parade entry forms are due Friday, Sept. 25. To pick up a parade entry form stop by the chamber office at 1040 Whitley Avenue.

 

Following the parade the Cotton Festival will continue at the Recreation Association of Corcoran, 800 Dairy Avenue.

 

Bingo will be held in the Kate H. Boswell Senior Center. Pre-sale bingo tickets are being sold. Pre-sale packets include one set of nine games (three games on a sheet) for regular bingo and one soft drink. Doors will open at 12 p.m. and games will begin at 12:30 p.m. Last game will be called at 4 p.m.

 

The 4th annual Amateur Rib Cook-off will also be held. The cook-off is sponsored by the California Pork Producers Association. The event is limited to the first 10 teams. Entry forms are available at the chamber office.

 

Have a big appetite? Enter into the Napoles Torta Challenge. Be the first to eat the 4.5 pounds of torta and fries and win a prize. The contest is limited to the first 10 contestants who submit an entry form.

 

The Corcoran Rotary

 

club will also sponsor free swim at the RAC pool from 3-6 p.m.

 

There will be live entertainment throughout the day with live music from August Band. Live entertainment is sponsored by Adventist Health.

 

Also on the schedule are carnival rides, cupcake walk, children’s entertainment, food and craft vendors and a beer and wine garden.

 

Vendors are currently being accepted for the event. Vendors must submit a vendor application and health department permit.
