Have a great rib recipe? Well it’s time to test your skills by entering in the Cotton Festival’s amateur rib cook-off which will be held Saturday, Oct. 3. The contest is limited to 10 teams and all entries must be received by Sept. 25.
Rules require that all sauces and ribs must be prepared at the event. Prepackaged spice and sauces are allowed but must be unopened prior to the event. All cooking will occur at the Corcoran RAC during the Cotton Festival. Amateur cooks age 21 and older are welcomed to enter the non-sanctioned event.
Teams must be three-person maximum. Each team will be given 10 slabs of pork ribs donated by California Pork producers Association. Teams will be judged by a five person panel and also by People’s Choice. Teams must bring their own barbecue, smoker, charcoal, lighter fluid, wood chips, etc.
Entry fee is $20 per team. Prizes are Judges Choice first place-$250 in Corcoran Cash; second place-$150 in Corcoran Cash; and third place-$50 in Corcoran Cash. Trophies will be awarded for both Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice.
