Funeral services for two members of a Corcoran family will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church next week. Both tragically died as the result of a vehicle accident that occurred close to midnight on 101/2 near Nevada Ave. Thursday, June 4.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2003 Dodge Neon driven by Christopher Rodriguez Jr., 28, of Hanford, was being driven northbound on 10 ½, approaching Nevada Ave. where the road curves, when he apparently drove the Dodge off the east side of the road and into the dirt. He swerved his car back to the roadway and the Dodge started to rotate counter clockwise. It then crossed into the northbound lane and entered the southbound lane, where the passenger side was struck by the front end of a southbound Cadillac driven by 18-year-old Brian Ramirez of Corcoran.
The crash caused devastating damage to both vehicles. Ramirez, who was to graduate Friday evening, was able to emerge from the 2005 Cadillac with minor injuries. However, his grandmother, Consuelo Reynoso, 69, died at the scene, as did his brother, 23-year-old Saul Ramirez. Rodriguez was also killed as was his passenger, Tony Hernandez of Hanford, who was 51 years old.
Both Consuelo and Saul were passengers in the back seat. All of those involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts.
Still in critical condition was the third passenger in the Ramirez vehicle, Linda Ramirez, 44. She was riding in the front passenger seat and was trapped in the car. She was airlifted to a Fresno hospital.
According to reports, she suffered major injuries, including several broken bones: ankle, leg, wrist, arm and shoulder, in addition to several broken ribs. She has already undergone more than one surgery for her injuries and remains hospitalized.
Visitation for Consuelo and Saul will be held at the Bledsoe Family People’s funeral Chapel Thursday, June 18, between 3-6 p.m. Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Funeral mass for both will be held in the same church Friday morning, June 19, beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Corcoran District Cemetery.
