The Corcoran Community Foundation is once again seeking to honor deceased members of the Corcoran community who have made great contributions to the City of Corcoran. The Corcoran Community Foundation has created a Memorial Wall which is located to the north side of the Corcoran City Pool at the Recreation Association of Corcoran (RAC). The wall will feature plaques in honor of the deceased members of the community who have contributed greatly to the progress of Corcoran.

The Corcoran Memorial Wall committee is currently accepting applications and will do so until deadline which is November 15. Two individuals will be chosen annually and a plaque will be mounted on the Memorial Wall during an unveiling ceremony in the spring (ceremony plans may change due to COVID).

Applicants will be chosen based on a points system—criteria requirements will determine the amount of points each applicant receives. Those nominated can be those born in Corcoran and who had continued to reside in town for a majority of their lives or local citizens not born in Corcoran but who had resided in town for most of their lives. Nominees may also just have worked in Corcoran but contributed greatly to the city. Clubs, organizations and/or boards that the nominees sat on or were a part of will also be recognized. Nominees’ activities within the city of Corcoran are also counted as well as the number of years they volunteered for each activity and that includes any leadership roles or positions they may have served in. Military service will also be included in the decision. All nominations submitted will be considered by the Foundation Memorial Wall Committee, which is an ad-hoc committee of The Corcoran Community Foundation. Duplicate or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

An application is available in this week’s Corcoran Journal on Page 2 or at 1040 Whitley Avenue. Completed applications can be turned into The Journal or the Corcoran Chamber of Commerce before the November 15 deadline. For more information call The Corcoran Journal at 992-3115 or the Corcoran Chamber of Commerce at 992-4514.
