Eligio “Rick” Bocanegra-Burnias went to meet Our Lord on the 31st of August 2022 at the age of 82.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Valdez Burnias and his five children, Ruth Rodriguez, Angela Navrozally (spouse Moeen), Eligio “Ricky” Burnias Jr. (spouse Sonia), Emily Burnias (spouse Tamzin) and Gabriel Burnias (spouse Suzi). He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Rick also leaves behind his beloved animals, his two dogs Peewee and Freckle-face are also affected by his passing.
Rick was born in Raymondville, Texas to Julio P. Burnias and Angela Bocanegra, one of 12 children. He spent most of his life in Corcoran California where he met the love of his life, Ruth. He married her at the age of 18 and they were married for 64 years. Even up to his last days he would make sure Ruth was taken care of, asking her “Did you take your pills? Have you taken your medication?”
Rick was a farm laborer for many of his younger years and then he went on to be a mechanic for Calarco. However, Rick’s happiest years were when he worked as a construction supervisor for Self Help Enterprises, helping families build their own homes.
Rick used much of his knowledge to help his children grow their young families, teaching them how to fix things in their homes from electrical to plumbing, waiting for service people while they worked and even helping with paper routes. He was always there when his family needed him, just a phone call away. He never said no; especially when it was “Netflix time”.
After retiring, his greatest joy was watching his family grow. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. Babysitting, taking them to school, attending their sports events, watching them grow-up and graduate and finally seeing them marry and have children of their own, brought him so much pride and delight.
He was a Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle, Friend. Dad, you were so much too so many. You will be greatly missed. You will remain forever in our hearts.

ELIGIO “RICK” BURNIAS
