Gustavo G. Ortega Velasquez, “Gus” was born September 24, 1976 in Mexico. He passed away April 11, 2016 in Corcoran at the age of 39 in the arms of his wife Donna and son Ruben.
Gus was a family man, dinner was always served at the table together, he enjoyed family gatherings always with family and friends in the back yard with great barbeques and laughter.
Gus would work during the day and always ready after dinner to help anyone in need, attend sports functions with the boys, turning wrenches with them teaching them how to be great mechanics and the ethic of hard work. He didn’t just shove orders at them, he took the time to teach them how to do it right.
He had a very giving spirit and always wanted to help, often without being paid for his extra work. He believed if you don’t work you don’t eat.
He also had a heart for the elderly, whether mowing the lawn, working on their car just to make sure they were safe or just to move boxes, he wanted his boys to know that you have to show love to people and don’t always have to be paid for it.
He was a diehard Dodger fan, loved his Budweiser and oldies. He especially enjoyed romantic trips with his wife, Donna to the coast. He and Donna married February 14, 2000. Then keeping their promise to Donna’s dad, they married in the church April 13, 2013.
He was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, Godfather and friend.
He was taken from us much too soon, but will always be in our hearts and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Navarro Ortega; sons, Ruben Ortega-Navarro, Gus Ortega Jr. and Demario Ortega; nephew, James Navarro whom he helped raise; mother-in-law, Mary Navarro; his mother, Olivia Velasquez; father, Juan Ortega; siblings, Sandra Ortega Lopez and Juan Luis Ortega; Godchildren; nieces and nephews; and friends.
Gus was preceded in death by his uncle, Roberto Hernandez; his father-in-law, Eladio Navarro and grandmother, Porfiria Hernandez.
