Jakob Guzman of Corcoran is heading to North Dakota Jan. 2 where he will play for the Minot State Beavers. Guzman earned a full-ride scholarship to play football at Division II Minot State University which is located in Minot, North Dakota.

Jakob is a 2019 graduate of Corcoran High School where he played sports for the Panthers. After graduation he attended College of the Sequoias in Visalia. He played football for the Giants for the past three years. However, last year he suffered a shoulder injury which required surgery so he received a medical red shirt year.

Jakob, who is the son of Monica and Victor Guzman of Corcoran has earned his Associate of Arts degree in Kinesiology from COS and will major in Exercise Science at Minot State. He hopes to earn his Bachelor of Science degree and then return home to secure a job in a Physical Therapy office while pursuing his nursing degree.

Jakob is excited to start the next chapter and credits his parents for supporting him.

“I want to thank them for supporting me through everything especially last year through my injury,” he said. “I am forever grateful.”

NCAA football schools were allowed to early-sign student-athletes for the class of 2024 from Wednesday, Dec. 20 through Friday, Dec. 22. After last Friday, student athletes have to wait until the regular national signing day which will be February 7, 2024.

Jakob is a 6-foot, 252-pound offensive lineman who played in five games during his time at the College of the Sequoias where he had two tackles.

Jakob joins nine players who committed early to Minot State with another player from California who includes Kyle Cherry from Fontana, a wide receiver who was highly recruited by Fresno State.

Minot State University offers more than 100 areas of study at the undergraduate and graduate level on a beautiful campus that has grown to over 100 acres in size. Students from across the United States and over 55 countries call Minot State home.
