Ida Lee Hammond was born in Woodlake, California and moved to Corcoran, California at an early age. She passed away on October 14, 2015, in Hanford, California at the age of 83.
Ida Lee attended Corcoran schools and graduated from Corcoran High School in 1949. She married Joe Hammond, Jr. September 3, 1949; they were married for 65 years. They had three children, Scott Debbie and Steve.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ida and Lee Johnson, her brother Garland Johnson, her son Scott Hammond and her husband Joe Hammond, Jr.
Ida Lee is survived by her daughter and son in law, Debbie Mead and Curt Mead; son and daughter in law, Steve and Jammie Hammond; and daughter in law, Margaret Hammond; grandsons, Greg and wife Traci Hammond, Brad and wife Sandi Hammond, Jared Hammond and Jonathan Hammond; great-grandchildren, Ashley Garcia, Matthew Garcia, Dusty Hammond, Cailee Hammond and Ethan Hammond. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara and husband Bruce Flaherty, three nephews, two nieces and Joe’s Aunt Lucille Smith.
She was self-employed at Hammond’s Home Furnishings in downtown Corcoran for 44 years where she worked alongside her husband Joe, son Scott and sister Barbara Flaherty. She was active in Plantation Club, Cotton Heirs, Soroptimist and 50-50.
Ida Lee suffered from Alzheimer’s for many years. In February 2014, she moved to Hannah’s Home care in Hanford where she was able to room with her friend Lucille Smith (Joe’s aunt) until her death.
Celebration of life services was held at Corcoran District Cemetery tomorrow (Friday) October 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Bledsoe Family People’s Funeral Chapel.
