J’s Gift Shop has been able to rely on its legal customer base since making a move from its former location on east Whitley Ave. to its new storefront on Chase Ave. just about a year ago.
The store, owns and operated by the Navarro family–John and Mary and daughters Carol and Rosemary–first came to life nearly 20 years ago at J’s Mini Mart and its accompanying gas station. When that business was sold, it did not take long for the family to make the decision to re-open its gift shop downtown.

The owners were guests of the Corcoran Rotary Club Thursday, speaking in the Business to Business portion of the luncheon meeting. And, making the case that visuals can sell the story, they brought along several gift baskets to show Rotarians.
Their gifts, range from fresh flowers to stuffed animals and baskets can be custom made, Purses and jewelry are available at the shop, as are custom candy bouquets and balloon bouquets. The Navarros are happy to make custom orders to fill customer needs, noted Carol.
She added that doing business in Corcoran has been rewarding for the family.
“We did not want to go anywhere else to start our business,” said Carol. “Our customers here were loyal and they followed us. We really like meeting the needs of our local residents.”
In addition to their own business Carol said their favorite local business is John Rodriguez Auto Specialties an auto repair shop located on Otis Ave., near the old Harold James offices. She said the entire family finds the auto shop honest and reliable as well as helpful.
“We know many people who travel from other surrounding cities to take their cars there,” stated Carol.
In celebration of their first anniversary at the new site, 1124 Chase Ave., J’s Gift Shop will be giving away prizes on Mother’s Day weekend. Check the shop for more details. They can also be reached by phone at 992-3562.
