It was a win for the record books. The Corcoran High varsity girls’ basketball team beat Woodlake 42-30 last Thursday to give Coach Doug White his 447th win and make him the most winningest girls’ basketball coach in the Section.

The Lady Panthers had come off of a terrible game against Granite Hills last Tuesday where they scored just 12 points.

“I was worried before the Woodlake game. We had played horribly at Granite Hills two nights before, and I was very concerned that the girls weren’t learning anything but just repeating the same mistakes over and over. I had watched film and decided they were having a hard time doing what they were expected to do. I threw out a bunch of stuff in the practice before the game and we worked on keeping things simple. I also made some line-up adjustments that paid off in the game. I switched the sides that our wings played on, decided who should start and I also had a hunch Eileen Nevarez was ready to go, and she responded with two big threes. Sophomore Ashley Salas also showed some signs of what she’s going to be doing in the future,” White said. “The big thing was that we finally got scoring from someone other than Elena Munoz. We have struggled to score this whole season while making bad choices and terrible passes, so it was especially nice to see other people score.”

Munoz led the team with 15 points, followed by Nevarez and Krystal Garcia who each scored eight. Rounding out the score was Salas who added six points and Lovechia Jones who had four.

Corcoran will play at home today (Thursday) against Lindsay and next Tuesday, Feb. 16 against Sierra Pacific. Games will be held in the big gym at Corcoran High School.
