Lavaughn Anderson, 83, a registered member of the Cherokee Nation, lost her battle with cancer and joined her Heavenly Father on April 28, 2020 in her Visalia home.
She was born in June of 1936 to Mattie and Vernon Jay Wilson in Tomaha, Oklahoma. Lavaughn, the eldest of six children, moved to California with her family when she was 14 and settled in Corcoran where she met and later married James Albert Anderson. The couple raised three children (Richard Anderson, Carolyn Sue Cutler, and Phyllis Mulanax), and were married 31 years, before his passing in 1984.
Known in Corcoran for her 55+ years of retail positions (Sprouts Ritz, Chic’s Café, B&B Liquor, and Cost Less Foods) throughout the community, Lavaughn retired in 2000 when she began caring for her great-grandchildren. Lavaughn enjoyed baking gardening, sewing, shopping, and the beach, but her family was the pride and joy of her life.
She is survived by her children Richard (Diane) Anderson of West Covina; Carolyn Sue (James) Cutler of Corcoran; and Phyllis Mulanax of Corcoran; four grandchildren Susan (Jerry) Long of Hanford; David (Rebecca) McCarty of Corcoran; Michael (Stephanie) Mulanax of Hanford; and Phylicia Mulanax of Corcoran; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, sister Jean Jones of Visalia; and Rosetta Fuller of Bakersfield, Randy Brown of Idaho, as well as dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friend of 56+ year Gwinda Lewis Glisson.
Lavaughn was preceded in death by her father Vernon Jay Wilson, mother Mattie Brown, stepfather James Brown, husband Albert Anderson, brother Danny Horton, sister Martella Doughty; and son-in-law Randy Mulanax,.
Due to COVID-19 services are not currently planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lou Gehrig’s disease foundation (ALS Association) and/or American Cancer Society.
