Our hearts have been broken by the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Lewis Florence.
He was born in Rio Hondo, TX on October 27, 1932 and returned to the Lord peacefully, at home, on May 4, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Charlyne; brother, Bob Florence; and by his son and wife, Scott and Diana Florence; daughter, Traci Florence; grandchildren: Aaron Florence, Ryan Gates and wife Tiffany, Ashley Moseley and husband Luke, Lyndsey Attahri and husband Yassine, Ryan Mathieu and husband Frederic; and great-grandchildren: Adon Florence, Jace Florence, Kaia Gates, Austin Moseley, Emily Moseley, Addison Moseley, and Iness Charlyne Attahri.
Lew grew up in Corcoran, CA and dearly loved his hometown and all of his friends. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, he started his career with Continental Telephone Co. in Corcoran in 1957, retiring in 1988, at which time he and Charlyne returned to the Valley.
Lew was THE #1 sports fan and coached Little League and Pop Warner football for many years. He was a mentor to many youths and was instrumental in starting the Pop Warner League in Corcoran and Exeter. When he no longer coached, he attended every basketball and football game he could possibly fit in, especially the Corcoran games. He was so proud of his home football team winning their first Valley Championship in 1951. He was an active, vibrant man and will be so missed.
Lew was preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Oza Florence; his sister, Gwen Woitalla, and his brother, Stan Florence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 21 at the Wayside Church of the Nazarene, 1929 E. Bardsley Ave. in Tulare. His spirit looks forward to being with all his family and friends that day.
