Mass services will be held Wednesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for Maria Burnias Nevarez, 85, who died March 31 in Corcoran.

Mrs. Nevarez was a farm laborer and homemaker. A native of Encouch, Texas, she had been a resident of Kings County for 62 years.

 

Survivors include her children, Eliseo Garcia, Gloria Nevarez, Robert Nevarez, Enrique Garcia, Martha Miranda, Hector Nevarez, Eddie Nevarez, David Nevarez, Albert Nevarez, Raymond Nevarez and Richard Nevarez; her siblings, Rick Burnias, Jess Pacheco, Ignacio Burnias, Ermenia Burnias, Vince Burnias, Octavian Burnias and Geneva Gomez; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 14 at the Bledsoe Family People’s Funeral Chapel from 3-6 p.m. Rosary service will also be held Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Following mass services Wednesday, interment will be at Corcoran District Cemetery.

Cookie, fudge contest winners

The Corcoran Journal and Corcoran Chamber cookie and fudge contest winners were chosen last week. The cookie contest was decided by just one point and taking home first place was Tiffany Singleton who submitted snickerdoodles. In second place in the cookie contest was Patti Rodriguez who won with her Raspberry Ribbon Cookies.
