Funeral mass was recited Thursday, Dec. 18 for Martin G. Escobedo, 50, who died Friday morning following a traffic accident on Highway 43 just north of Hanford.

 

According to the California Highway Patrol, Escobedo died when his pick-up, headed southbound on Highway 43, collided head-on with a big rig. The accident occurred just south of Fargo Ave. at about 10:10 a.m. Friday morning.

 

 

The CHP said Escobedo was attempting to pass a car in front of him while driving his 2007 pick-up. He crossed over the center line and collided head-first into the truck, which was in the northbound lane.

 

Escobedo was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the big rig, Jorge Sousa-Lima of Tulare, was not injured in the crash.

 

The accident closed the highway for several hours.

 

Escobedo was a mechanic for Mid-State Precast in Corcoran. He coached several local baseball teams.

 

Survivors include his wife, Christina; sons Marty, Christopher and Cristian Escobedo; his mother, Margarita; brothers Jimmy and Arthur Escobedo; sisters Yolanda, Teresa and Roberta; and three grandsons.

 

Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Bledsoe People’s Family Chapel and rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes.

 

Following funeral services at Our Lady of Lourdes at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 burial was be at the Corcoran District Cemetery.
