The 5th annual Meet the Need event was held Saturday in Corcoran. Members of the both the Corcoran Police Department and Kings County Fire Department set up a canned food drive in front of Cost less Foods Saturday morning. And that evening the event continued at Harvest Community Baptist Church where a taco contest was held and food baskets and coats were given to needy families.

Approximately 102 families received food and 200 jackets were given to infants, children, teens and adults. A movie was shown that evening, and free hot chocolate, popcorn and cupcakes were also given away.
One recipient of the food basket who asked to remain anonymous said she was grateful for the help.
“I need it especially at this time of the year and it helps out my family a lot,” she said.
