Lemoore Middle College High School swamped the competition to win the annual Kings County Academic Decathlon. The event concluded Saturday with the Super Quiz and awards presentations.

The 34th Annual decathlon was hosted by Lemoore High School, whose team claimed second place. Corcoran High’s team finished in third place. Behind the top three teams were Hanford West, Hanford High, Sierra Pacific and Avenal High School, respectively.

Students competed in a rigorous set of academic examinations demonstrating their versatility in a variety of academic categories. Each team was comprised of A, B and C students. In addition to the tests in different categories, from art to math and music, students performed in prepared and impromptu speeches, essays on a given topic and participated in interview competitions.

As the overall winner, Lemoore Middle College High will compete at the state level representing Kings County.

Corcoran’s top decathlete was Morgan Meik, who received a $250 scholarship for his efforts.

This year’s decathlon theme was India.
