Micaela Castro died on September 27, 2016, one week from her 93rd birthday. She was a life-long Corcoran resident except for the first and last few years of her life and could never bear to be away from her beloved town for too long.
Micaela was the consummate Mother who always put her family first. She taught herself to sew clothes for her children, and learned to cook and bake delicious delights that got the family to the dinner table with gusto. Coughs and hurts didn’t last too long before her loving hands were concocting a homemade remedy or scheduling a visit with Dr. Jacob. Pick-ups after sports or piano lessons, PTA meetings, fun trips to the big city (Fresno) all were fodder for Mom’s definition of Motherhood. She was a supportive helpmate to her husband Rudy, and was always there for him. She loved the outdoors, especially Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. She loved tulips and roses. Her big and generous heart toward people and animals in need found many opportunities to help. Mom was a positive force, filled with a can-do attitude and a zest for living. She had a keen mind that helped her enjoy learning new things, and a sense of humor that delighted the family.
Micaela leaves behind her daughters Geri (Glenn), Yvonne (Jim), her grandson Andrew, her brother Jack, and several nieces and nephews. She has been buried in the Corcoran Cemetery next to her beloved husband of 65 years. We will remember our mother with a great and endless love. Her spirit will nurture and support us for the remainder of our lives and we are thankful that such a special person was our Mom.
