Michael Ernest “Mikey” Syra was born July 28, 1950 in Corcoran to Bob and Mildred Syra, and he passed away Feb. 6 at the age of 72 following a brief battle with an illness.
Mike is survived by his son, Jeffrey Michael Syra of Fresno; his brother, David Syra (Judy) of Corcoran; his sister, Christy Stephens (Bill) of Corcoran; and sister-in-law Jill Syra of Corcoran. He is also survived by nieces Brandee Syra and Brea Valle and nephews Billy and David Stephens who he loved joking around with—“We love you Uncle Monkey”.
Mike was preceded in death by both parents, his brother, Darrell Syra of Corcoran, his half-brother Howard Syra of Colorado and nephews Devan Syra and Darin Syra, both of Corcoran.
Mike was a proud Navy veteran and lifelong resident of Corcoran who loved nature, his country and his family. He spent his early post Navy excavating the valley, hauling cattle and eventually making his way to Sawtelle and Rosprim where he and his brother, Darrell would spend many years working side by side as fabricators.
Mike accomplished his dream of being on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in September 2019.
The family will be holding a private ceremony and Celebration of Life.
Mike will be remembered and missed for his humor and love.
