Moises Herrera Avitia “Papa” was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on January 30, 1933. He was 87 years old and passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 14, 2020.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, friend, and so much more. Papa to many that knew him. He was an avid Raiders fan and season ticket holder whose name was inscribed at the Oakland Coliseum. He loved football, golf, weekly card games with lifelong friends, annual camping trips to Pismo Beach and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed many sports and introduced many people to the game of golf. He and his brother, Frank Avitia established the Avitia Golf Classic to raise scholarship money for Corcoran High School graduates for over a decade.
Moises is survived by his wife, Judy; their eight children, Veronica, Moses Jr., Myrna, John, Mary, Josefa, Raquel, and Shelly; seventeen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Moises was a devout Catholic and attended mass regularly at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 22.
