Corcoran is celebrating its 100th birthday and we’re providing a way for our residents to jump in and join the fun. Plenty of activities will be held through 2014 to commemorate the anniversary. Our special treasure hunt has already begun.
Throughout 2014, The Corcoran Journal, in partnership with the city, will encourage local residents to find 100 City of Corcoran stickers that will be placed in 100 different places. Start looking and get to know your community. All the stickers, which are three inches in diameter, will be fairly easy to spot once participants are in the right place. They will be placed around town on a weekly basis, with clues to their whereabouts.
In order to begin seeking the hiding places, participants need a game card, which can be picked up at city hall or at The Corcoran Journal office. Take the card, include a name and phone number on it and start looking.
When participants find one of the stickers, they must come to The Journal Office for verification at which time their card will be credited with the find.
At the end of the contest–which will be ongoing for several months–winners will be named. First place will earn $250 in Corcoran Cash; second place gets $150 in Corcoran Cash; and third place will take home $100 in Corcoran Cash. Corcoran Cash can be spent like real cash with local participating merchants.
Ready for two more clues? For those who need last week’s clues, copies of the newspaper are available at The Journal. There are two new hiding places this week. For help, consider the following:
–Remember the old Mode O Day store? Well, you’d have to go back more than 48 years in this building to see it once again. It has operated under its current name for that long! It’s been years since it changed ownership and still operates as the “go to” place for Valentine’s, Mother’s Day and prom orders.
–A newer addition to the commercial sector, this business stands in a block of Whitley that once supported single family residences. Doesn’t seem like it’s been here long enough to require renovations, but the business is currently undergoing a major remodeling.
