John Muir Middle School has a new leader this year. Mr. Dave Whitmore is now the new principal.
“I am excited, happy to be here and looking forward to a fantastic year.” said Whitmore.
Whitmore has been in education for 19 years. He attended the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was originally a premed major. However, after some time in the medical field, he decided he would be better suited for teaching since he loves working with kids. His first teaching position was in a rural migrant community in Oregon. He taught high school biology and stayed there for five years. Whitmore then came to the Central Valley, continuing his career in education in Lindsey and Visalia.
According to Whitmore, “The chance to be on the cutting edge of education, with the one to one IPADS is what brought me here. Corcoran is in a situation to really set the bar for not just the state of California, but for the whole United States in education.”
And his goal for the 2015-2016 school year is simple: he wants school to be fun and a place where every child wants to come and learn.
Whitmore lives with his wife and three daughters in Tulare. His wife Dana is a master baker and owns her own bakery called “Dana’s Cookies.”
