Physical Therapy comes to Corcoran!
It took three years but the idea of bringing physical therapy to Corcoran came to fruition due to the hard work of the Corcoran Hospital District board. Physical Therapy was one of the services brought to the attention of the Corcoran Hospital District board during a public forum. Members of the community said they had to travel out of town for such services and many elderly residents weren’t able to find a ride to physical therapy appointments.
Corcoran Hospital District Board Chairman Mike Graville said the board worked with several different entities to bring physical therapy services to Corcoran but finally partnered with United Health Centers who brought on Phys Med. United Health Centers and Phys Med worked together in other surrounding communities and the thought was to bring Phys Med to Corcoran.
A grand opening was held Friday at Phys Med’s location in Corcoran which is located at 1209 Whitley Avenue. The event was attended by members of the community, City of Corcoran staff and councilmembers, United Health Centers, Corcoran Chamber of Commerce, Corcoran Hospital District board members and Phys Med representatives.
Many steps were involved in the planning stages and process of bringing physical therapy to Corcoran including finding a suitable building and start-up costs. According to Graville, the Corcoran Hospital District board furnished Phys Med with a start-up grant in the amount of $184,250 for the first year. Phys Med’s services and sustainability will be evaluated after the first year with hopes that it can operate in Corcoran on its own.
However, Graville noted that the board is committed to seeing that Phys Med provide services to Corcoran residents for the long haul.
