Services were held Thursday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. at Basham Funeral Care Chapel for Ramon “Monie” Gonzales Chavez who died Jan. 22.
Monie was born Aug. 9, 1926 in Solomon, Arizona to Marcos and Luz Chavez, who both preceded him in death. He arrived in California at the age of 13 years old. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years before retiring.
Monie married his first love, Frances Balver in 1948 before her passing in 1997.
He is survived by his current wife, Harriet of Bakersfield; his children, Raymond Chavez, Tony Chavez and Michael Garcia, all of Bakersfield and Sandy Alvarado and Gloria Galindo, also of Bakersfield; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; his brothers, Pete Chavez and Louis Chavez, both of Corcoran; sisters, Lily Orosco, Stella Martinez and Sally Alaniz, all of Corcoran.
Visitation was also held Thursday, Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. at Basham Funeral Care Chapel, 3312 Niles St. in Bakersfield. Following services, interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield.
