Samuel Lopez Rivas passed from this life into the arms of our Lord on February 8, 2021, at the age of 78. Samuel was born May 6, 1942, in the community of Angiola, California. Samuel migrated to Corcoran, California where he spent the rest of his life as a dedicated, hard worker for his father. Samuel was a very committed basketball player all through high school. He was proud to graduate from Corcoran High School Class of 1960. Samuel’s love for the sport did not end after high school; he surrounded himself around the sport. Samuel was a proud United States Army Veteran and expressed patriotism for serving the country he loved. After his military service, Samuel returned to Corcoran where he spent 30 years as a hard-working employee for J.G. Boswell.Samuel was a well-known fan and supporter of our local sports teams and school events. He spent almost every Friday night at football games, attended any basketball game, and enjoyed watching volleyball for Corcoran High School. Samuel also enjoyed his daily morning exercise walks throughout the town. Often, he would stop to talk and fellowship with his many friends and create new friendships along the way. Many times, he would meet new people and tell everyone “that’s my friend”.Samuel Rivas is survived by his brothers, Ruben Rivas of Corcoran, Rosendo Rivas of Corcoran, and Rey Rivas of Gilroy; sisters, Margaret Miranda of Corcoran, Amelia Rodriguez of Gilroy, Roberta Rivas of Corcoran, Patricia Diaz of Corcoran and Cindy Rivas of Visalia. He is also survived by all his nieces and nephews especially his great nieces and great nephews whom he loved and cherished so much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Asuncion and Victoria Rivas, brother, Toto Rivas, sisters, Rosemary R. Hernandez, Rachel Navarro, Angelina Zamora, and Alice Rivas.Funeral viewing was held Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021 from 4-6 p.m. An outdoor Celebration of Life service was held Friday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Corcoran Apostolic Church, 2725 North Avenue followed by burial at Corcoran Cemetery.
