One man has been arrested and the investigation is continuing into what is suspected to be a gang-related shooting that occurred Sunday, Nov. 29. The 7 p.m. shooting was at an inhabited dwelling in the 1000 block of Ventura Ave.
Police responded to the scene after receiving a report of shots fired and contacted a male victim who said his residence was shot at by a male suspect. The victim told officers he started shooting back at the suspect who ran and left in a waiting vehicle.
Witnesses at the scene reported the suspect vehicle was a blue SUV.
Just a short time later, officers made a traffic stop on a blue Suburban in the 1900 block of Osage Ave. The vehicle had a gunshot hole in the rear tailgate. The driver, Benjamin Rodriguez, 18, admitted to officers he had been shot at earlier in the evening.
A search was made of the Rodriguez vehicle and police found 15.5 grams of marijuana packed in separate containers and prescription pills. The suspect was also in possession of over $1,700 in cash.
He was booked at the local jail on charges of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, criminal street gang enhancement, possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana and possession of prescription pills for sale. He was later transported to the Kings County Jail in Hanford, with bail set at $450,000.
