Corcoran residents are invited to help “Stuff the Bus” Saturday, Aug. 15.
Just in time for back to school, the local Rotary Club will host this year’s event, designed to provide school supplies to local needy students.
A local school bus will be parked in the Rite Aid parking lot on the 15th, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Residents can bring by any type of school supplies, from crayons to pencils to folders, which will be placed in the bus. Cash donations are also welcome and will be spent on school supplies.
Both local state prisons have already signed on to help the effort. Members of the Corcoran Police Department’s Explorer Scout program will be on hand to help Rotarians accept donations.
Once the bus is stuffed, it will return to the Corcoran Unified School District maintenance yard, where it will be unloaded. School personnel will assess all the collected items—which should include many backpacks—and will load those backpacks will needed school supplies. Local community contacts will make sure the items are distributed to needy families.
