Move over Danica Patrick, Katey Syra of Corcoran just may be racing against you one day. Syra, 12, of Corcoran started riding quads and dirt bikes when she was three-years-old. She moved up to go-karts and got a few championships under her belt when she was eight. This year Syra began racing a 600 Micro Sprint.

“I have the need for speed and competition,” Katey said. “This is my first season racing a Micro Sprint and it’s been very exciting. I have several sponsors and family members that help make my dream possible.”

 

Syra’s sponsors include The Diesel Doctor family, Jerry Fabrie of Fabrie Jewelers, Roger Daniels of Sparkleen Car Wash, Tom Alvidrez of A’s Auto Parts, Robert Johnson of RJ Sports, Rod McCoy of Roll N Fresh, Danny Noriega of T-Shirt Express, Steve Hamblin of Hamblin Motorsports, her parents Dolores and Larry Syra, her grandparents Glinda and Bob Nichols and her sister Samantha Molina.

 

“Without them none of this would be possible,” Katey added.

 

Syra’s dreams of making it to the Tulsa Shootout in Tulsa, Oklahoma which will be held in January 2016.

 

“I am hoping that with the continued support of my family and sponsors that I will be able to represent the community of Corcoran in Tulsa and make them proud,” Syra commented.

Cookie, fudge contest winners

The Corcoran Journal and Corcoran Chamber cookie and fudge contest winners were chosen last week. The cookie contest was decided by just one point and taking home first place was Tiffany Singleton who submitted snickerdoodles. In second place in the cookie contest was Patti Rodriguez who won with her Raspberry Ribbon Cookies.
