Corcoran’s new Technology Learning Center (TLC) was showcased twice in the past week, allowing visitors to share in the innovative facility that has become a highlight for the Corcoran Unified School District and the City of Corcoran.

Turnovers hurt the Corcoran High School varsity girls’ basketball team during Tuesday night’s CIF Division IV state play-off game. Corcoran was the number eight seed and they hosted number nine seed Bellarmine Jefferson of Burbank.

A tough full court press forced 23 Corcoran turnovers in the first half but despite that the Lady Panthers still hung close at the half trailing 32-43. However, the second half was all Bell-Jeff as the Panthers struggled. Corcoran ended the game and their season with a 55-76 loss.

CDH lays off 10 employees

On the heels of the departure of Corcoran District Hospital’s chief business officer and head of the hospital’s billing department, 10 lay-offs took place Monday at the financially-strapped facility.

CEO Jonathan Brenn stated in a news release Tuesday afternoon that the Monday lay-offs of 10 staff members took place to achieve additional necessary cost cuts. He said he expects the reduction in force will save hospital personnel expenses approximately $262,000 a year.

Census is near

The 2010 census forms should be arriving in the mail next week. The Census Bureau is sending 120 million forms to residential addresses across the country and forms could be received as early as Monday.
