BH, Fremont book drive begins Monday
Community members: John C. Fremont and Bret Harte schools are holding a book erie for any used reading books that are in good condition and appropriate for reading levels spanning kindergarten through sixth grade.

Water workshop
The Kings County Water Commission will host a special water workshop this morning (Thursday) in Hanford at the Kings County Government Center.
he water commission will discuss the agricultural water supply outlook for Kings County in 2010, before covering municipal districts discuss their problems and urban water management plans and goals. Also on the agenda will be groundwater issues, with information from the Kings River Conservation District on overdraft, state control, regional water planning and future water planning.
Gang shoot-our leads to arrests
More arrests are expected following a shooting near Mark Twain Elementary School over the Easter Break.
Officers from the Corcoran Police Department responded to the area at about 10:05 p.m., after receiving multiple reports of shots fired to the area. The callers noted that several shots had been fired.
While investigating the incident, local officers learned that two groups of people were involved in the altercation. One group was walking westbound on Oregon Ave. near Cesar Chavez Park and the other was walking eastbound near the front of the school.
Volunteers give Day of Service
Local volunteers gathered Saturday to provide a Day of Service in honor of the city’s 100th anniversary. The Centennial Clean-up included faith-based groups as well as volunteers from offices of elected officials and the city itself.
Reagan is Rios guest
Michael Reagan, American radio host, top-selling author and eldest son of Ronald Reagan, will be the special guest for Republican Assembly candidate Pedro Rios’ gala fundraising dinner Tuesday evening, May 13, in Hanford.
Assemblywoman Shannon Grove is co-hosting the fundraiser along with a number of Kings and Kern counties’ agricultural leaders.
