Ted DeWayne Pruitt Sr. (75) of Corcoran, CA passed away January 10, 2023.
Ted was born March 23, 1947 in Delano, CA to Ted and Dorothy Pruitt. He grew up and attended schools in McFarland, CA, graduating in 1965, at which time he married the love of his life, Wanda Martin, from Wasco, CA.
He began his career with the California Department of Corrections in 1970, working at California Men’s Colony, CCI-Tehachapi and CTF-Soledad. He came to Corcoran in 1987 as part of the activation team for the new prison, making Corcoran his home. He retired as a Captain from California State Prison-Corcoran in 1999.
Ted loved spending his free time teaching and coaching his four children the fundamentals of sports and sportsmanship. He loved his community and he was an active member of the Corcoran Little League, Pop Warner Football and Babe Ruth Baseball. Being a positive role model and helping children of the community brought great joy to his life. One of the things he was most proud of was bringing the Babe Ruth 14-year-old State All Star Tournament to Corcoran.
Ted is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda; his four children, Debbie Pruitt, Christie Molina (Robert), Ted Pruitt Jr. (Jodi) and Eric Pruitt (Rachael). He is also survived by his sister, April Dove Alberg (Norm); Grandchildren Kasha, Breanna, Ariel, Mitchell, Derek, Trent, Hailey, Dezireah, Braden, Logan and Evan; and Great-Grandchildren Jonny, Anthony, Frankie, Tre and Della.
Ted touched the lives of many people in the community, not just the youth he coached, but every individual he came in contact with. The community of Corcoran lost an amazing man.
Interment and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
