The Corcoran High School Panther tennis team continued their four-consecutive game trip to Strathmore last Tuesday and came away with a convincing 7-2 victory over the pesky Spartans.

Corcoran won four of the six singles matches and swept all three doubles matches. In number two singles, Debbie Martinez jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, but was challenged by Rebecca Chapa the remainder of the match before Chapa fell, 6-8. Number four singles, Jenny Gonzalez made quick work of Lily Bennett by the score of 8-0. In number five singles, Simran Dulai pulled away from Zoe Velasquez for an 8-2 victory. In number six singles, Stephanie Beas earned a steady victory over Aneli Adams, 8-4. The Spartans were victorious in number one singles as Shamila Thiagarajian avenged a home loss from last year, blitzing Sabrina Oregel, 0-8. In number three singles, Ashley Pappilli could not find any consistency, falling behind Samantha Oliveira, 3-7, before staging a strong comeback that fell short, losing 6-8.

In doubles play, number three doubles, Monica Deloera and Maria Contreras continued to improve and shutout Kenzie Millhouse and Julia Lewis, 8-0. In number two doubles, Martinez and Pappilli were too much for Oliveira and Bennett, winning 8-3. Finally in number one doubles, Oregel and Gonzalez defeated Chapa & Thiagarajian, 8-4.

On Thursday of last week the Panthers hosted Lindsay High and came away with a one-sided 9-0 victory. Number one singles, Sabrina Oregel topped Jasdeep Bains, 8-1. In number two singles, Debbie Martinez ran past Carina Urbano, 8-1. In number three singles, Ashley Pappilli got back on track and defeated Janete Arce, 8-1. Jennifer Gonzalez blanked Lorena Espinoza in number four singles by the score of 8-0. Number five singles, Simran Dulai bested Jimena Mesa, 8-1. Finally, in number six singles, Stephanie Beas held Crystal Lemus scoreless with an 8-0 victory.

In doubles action, the Panthers pitched three shutouts as Martinez and Pappilli, Oregel and Gonzalez and Monica Deloera and Maria Contreras all won by the score of 8-0.

Corcoran returned to action this past Tuesday with a home match against Granite Hills followed by a Thursday match hosting Sierra Pacific. Details were not available at press time.
