Having lost the nucleus that led the Corcoran High School girls’ tennis teams to its most successful four years in school history, the 2015 CHS girls’ tennis squad started the new season with an 8-1 scrimmage victory at Delano High last Thursday.
eeing action in number one singles was junior, Debbie Martinez. Also competing for the number one singles slot this year will be sophomore, Ashley Pappilli and senior, Sabrina Oregel.
The number four through number six singles spots are also up for grabs and are currently being contested by Simran Dulai, Stephanie Beas, Genshel Naguiat, Maria Perez, Kenia Hernandez, Isabel Mendez and Jennifer Gonzalez.
In doubles, newcomer, Monica De Loera, along with returning sophomores, Maria Contreras, Mabel Zamora and Samantha Robles are vying for the number three doubles spot.
The JV squad has a lot of new faces and have been working hard and learning the game. This year’s squad includes: Maggie Arrellano, Nayeli Beas, Alisandra Hernandez, Vivian Castillo, Fabiola Carranza, Paulina Perez, Jizzel Nunez, Yolanda Cabrera, Trinity Velasco, Karla Diaz, Julianne Garcia, Daisy Urena, Monika Alvarado, Brandy Montoy, Daniela Bravo and Lizbeth Zamora.
The Panthers look to contend for a league title once again and with steady progress are anxious to make some noise in the Division IV playoffs. The Panthers host Fowler today (Thursday) at 4 p.m. at the CHS tennis courts. They will begin East Sequoia League play next Thursday against Orosi.
