A theft ring with an apparent sweet tooth appears to be operating in several communities in California, and on May 11, a Corcoran business fell victim to the commercial burglary.

It’s done in broad daylight, while surveillance cameras are rolling.

According to the local police department, four Hispanic females entered Sunshine Donuts in the 900 block of Whitley Ave. and while in the shop, three of the women made conversation with the employees in an apparent attempt to distract their attention. The fourth suspect swooped behind the counter, taking purses and other items.

The stolen items were placed in a large bag the fourth woman carried into the shop. All four women left the store together.

While investigating the crime, officers from the Corcoran Police Department discovered that several similar crimes have been committed in different areas of the state, including Clovis, Salida and San Luis Obispo.

“Surveillance video has been obtained in many of these crimes, including the one at Sunshine Donuts, and it appears to be the same or similar suspects at each crime,” noted Deputy Chief Gary Cramer.

The local department is working with the departments from other impacted communities and is asking that any local residents who may have information about the crimes to call the department at 992-5151, or the confidential tip line at 992-3591.
